• Two Scottish new towns are agitating for improved public transport — Glenrothes in Fife and Cumbernauld New Town.
The former has established the Glenrothes public transport association to represent residents on all matters relating to rail or bus transport in the new town. Initial effort will be directed towards ensuring that newer sections of the town are not provided with transport to the detriment of older sections. Membership is open to individuals and statutory bodies (see page 24).
In Cumbernauld New Town a working party representing residents, the authority and the bus company has considered proposals for improvement. It wants through buses re-routed into Cumbernauld; fuller display of timetables at all strategic points; better co-ordination of road and rail; and a minimum interval of 30 minutes between any service from any one point in the new town to any other.
