According to Richard Osborne, Volvo's UK fire and municipal account manager and project leader for LEC, the time spent on developing the niche product is more than worthwhile.
He says: "Volvo has been discussing low-entry vehicles for years. I took it on as a project because we see real potential for the LEC among refuse, airport, fire and highways vehicle buyers.
"The UK low entry market is somewhere around 700 vehicles a year [in a normal market], and you're really talking about the Dennis or the Econic — there isn't much else barring the odd Scan in."
