ANEW silencing system introduced by Arvin Industries, Inc., a large U.S. producer of exhaust equipment, is said to overcome the drawback of trapped acids and other corrosives from the engine.
The ArvinNode system dispenses with the silencer as such. Instead, small, finely tuned resonators are attached to the inside wall of the exhaust pipe. When sound waves from the engine hit the resonators they, in turn, create sound waves that counteract and reduce the original noise.
