• Production of commercial road vehicles in the UK fell by 53,000 in 1967 from the previous year, reveal figures released by the Ministry of Technology.
The actual figures (1966 in parentheses) were:— For the home market: 245,892 (260,614): exports 139,414 (178,061): total, 385.106 (438,675). Total weekly average production fell to 7,406 from 8,436.
The export figures were made up of:— Goods vehicles: 125,335 (1 51,141): passenger: 6.979(11,150).
In 1964 158,201 goods vehicles and 7,103 passenger were exported.
SMMT figures show that shipments of commercial vehicles were worth L116.8m in 1967 (£142m in 1966).
Total exports of motor products of all kinds brought the UK more than <£730m in overseas currency.
