ARISING out of the events at Luton, recently reported in our columns, when the local chairman, vice-chairman and other members of the Northern Sub-Area of the Metropolitan Area of A.R.O. resigned from that Association, a special meeting of local hauliers of Hauliers Mutual Federation was called last week for the purpose of electing a provisional committee to represent the hauliers in that district.
Mr. Frank Lucas, chairman of Hauliers Mutual Federation, addressed the meeting and stated that it was necessary to form a provisional committee in order to get together local members of H.M.F. and to form local groups in accordance with the constitution of the Federation.
The following committee of 13 was elected:—Messrs. Haynes, Pyne, Lucas, Howes, Currie. P. R. Williams. A. Thompson, Meeks, Durrant, Hulabins, Armitage, Councillor Edwards and Mr. Hines. It was decided that the committee should meet on the second Tuesday in every month.
After this provisional committee had formally been constituted a generaldiscussion took place. It was decided that on the occasions when action in regard to some Matter of vital importance to the industry was necessary, representations would be made, from the area, to the local Members of Parliament or, alternatively, through the Provisional Council of the Federation to the Ministry of War Transport.
Reference was made to the Perry Scheme, also to the rates being paid in connection with the Government Haulage Scheme, it being unanimously agreed that these were • quite Made uate .
