I am told that Captain Jack Dawson (left), Commodore of Townsend Thoresen's Dover fleet, has retired after 35 years with the company and more than half a century at sea.
For his farewell voyage he commanded the 4,981-ton ferry Free Enterprise VI on a round trip to Calais, where civic representatives made a special presentation marking his association with the port.
He's a great character and well known to some of us at CM. And if there is a ferry captain better known to lorry drivers, I'd like to know who he is.
