Lambourn Coachbuilders were quoting six months delivery dates for their horse transporters — such is the demand — when an urgent request came in for one for superstar race horse Red Rum.
However, the workforce responded well; they came in during weekends and evenings to build him one specially.
Chrysler Motors supplied a G08 chassis and Lambourn set to constructing one of their Competitor bodies.
Red Rum honoured Lambourn Coachbuifders with a visit and the next day the vehicle was handed over to Ginger McCain at the most appropriate venue — the winning post at Aintree.
