• Sharp competition in the parcels business has forced United Carriers to warn that its 1995 profits will be down just three months after the company was floated on the stock market.
Business was better than expected in its other transport and distribution operations: handling car imports and distribution of parts for General Motors, and the Carpet Express haulage business acquired last year. But this will not compensate for a 5% drop in parcel volumes in April compared with 1993.
Profits this year will be less than the £4.1m achieved on a £106m turnover last year.
