Road freight activity is expected to bounce back in Q2 of the year after a patchy start. The Freight Transport Association’s Quarterly Transport Activity Survey, which features responses from 115 FTA members, found an “undercurrent of optimism”, despite growth in the first three months of the year that was weaker than expected. While the Midlands and the North saw the most activity at the start of the year, London, the South-East, Scotland and Northern Ireland saw falls. For Q2, hauliers in the Midlands and the North are predicting increases in activity; Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and the West expect no change; and London and the South-East forecast falls.
