When residual values and margins nosedived with the speed of a lead balloon, there was one truck that managed to stay airborne – the Scania V8 tractor. It actually gained in value, such is its reputation among the plant movers, owner-drivers and traction-only hauliers (yes, there are still a few left). Key, is always the fact that the V8 was a selective purchase upfront – no large fleet operator would buy 50 and dilute the market. Laurie Dealer raises a glass in salute.
