Buyers can always open an account with an auction, says Davis, and they do not necessarily have to purchase vans and trucks every week to qualify for account facilities. “If you only buy a couple of trucks annually, then that is usually absolutely fine,” he says.
Having an account also makes it easier to prove you are who you say you are. Auctioneers expect to see one or more pieces of identity – passport, driver’s licence, utility bill and so on – before they will do business with you.
“One of those identity documents must have your address on,” says Davis. The reason is that you could be buying that anonymous-looking white 7.5-tonner for use in the commission of a crime or a terrorist outrage.
Once payment has gone through, then your purchase can be driven away provided that it is taxed, insured – some auctions have an arrangement under which any vehicles purchased are insured free-of-charge automatically for 24 hours after the sale – and has a valid MoT certificate, again if applicable.
“We can of course arrange for a vehicle to be delivered to you either on a low loader or on trade plates,” says Davis.
