II A public inquiry has heard how Dudley Council in the West Midlands overloaded 14 of its trucks on more than 40 separate occasions.
At a Birmingham public inquiry, Traffic Commissioner David Dixon was told by Vehicle Inspectorate staff that the vehicles were overloaded by an average of 596 over a nine-day period in March 1998.
Dixon adjourned the hearing until 3 March to enable him to interview the eight drivers involved in the case.
The inquiry also heard that on 15 March 1999 Dudley magistrates dismissed 43 overloading charges against the council on a legal technicality.
