0 IL PRICES stirred up most feeling at this year's conference. One haulier asked the RHA to arrange a boycott of one major supplier a month in retaliation against frequent price adjustments.
Glyn Samuel, a vice-chairman of the RHA, said he and three other hauliers in the North did that on their own after oil companies tried to introduce direct debit as a condition of sale.
We took them on and stopped buying from major suppliers. One has come to heel and we have been getting a much better deal." Get together locally, he suggested: "I think that the price will surprise you."
Samuel's group bought 150,000 gallons a month, but RHA chairman Bert Neely added: "1 wonder if even small companies realise the power they have got.
"Loyalty (to one supplier) has got to go through the board. Shop around. Play one off against the other," he urged.
Dave Allen, from the buying co operative ROADS, asked why there were no oil companies present. Plaskett replied that they had not been invited as speakers, but could have come as associate members.
