Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Following claims that confidence in secondhand tractors fitted with the Cummins L10 engine is "dwindling", Cummins Engine has acknowledged that it experienced "water leaks on the L10 engine following a change in head gasket design" last year.

Secondhand vehicle pricing analysts CAP reports that buyers are giving L10-powered tractors a miss in favour of those equipped with the 14litre Cummins power unit (see Auction News page 106). But Cummins asserts that the gasket difficulties were rectified last November, and that "all the warranty data has been going dramatically in the right direction".

Tractors with the modified engines have yet to appear on the secondhand market in significant numbers, but Cummins general sales manager Roger Wilsdon says: "The success of the LIO over the past five years convinces us that in time to come, an L10-powered truck will command the same premium as a Cummins 14-litre engined vehicle. Right now we believe the resale value of an LW-powered truck is in some cases, higher than trucks with other quality 10, or 12-litre engines."
