According to the University of Huddersfield's Transport and Logistics Research Unit, recruitment problems could be tackled by:
• Industry associations— such as the FTA and RHAimproving co-ordination of initiatives to raise the profile of the sector.
• The setting up of a special interest group to investigate recruitment problems. This would be run by the new Institute of Logistics and Transport.
• Employers making greater use of technology— such as the Internet—to market themselves, their jobs and the industry.
• Closer links between big firms and schools to help explain to students what logistics is and the career opportunities open to them.
• Closer partnerships between universities and businesses.
