Sheffield-based Intake Transport has taken delivery of three Volvo FH12 6x2 tractor units from Crossroads Volvo in Rotherham and, according to company partner John Burgin, the reason for the change to Volvo from the previous line-up of Daft and Scanias was down to the cost £59.000 per tractor. 'As always, the cost was a deciding factor, but there were other issues such as the delivery time and the quality of the servicing package."
He adds: "We looked at most of the equivalent offerings from other manufacturers: MAN. Mercedes, Daf and Scania, but the overall package fitted into our requirements. Most modern tractors do about 8mpg so we weren't too bothered about the fuel claims from the different manufacturers.'
Flated for 44 tonnes, the 460hp attics come with 14-speed manual Volvo gearboxes and XL cabs with prestige trim and leather upholstery.
