• Sir James Duncan is to step down as chairman of the Transport Development Group at the end of August, when he reaches 65, after more than 30 years as a director of the group.
Duncan will be replaced by Martin Llowarch, 56, who joined the TDG board in February — he takes over as chairman on 1 September. Llowarch joined TDG from British Steel where he was chief executive from 1986 to 1991. He remains a non-executive director with three other companies. bution division was trimmed last June from eight to four companies through mergers. This followed a restructuring in February 1991 when TDG shut its UK regional divisions and regrouped into four business areas — hire, distribution, storage and transport.
Duncan announced his resignation at the group AGM last week after a year in which he had seen the restructuring pay off with a £700,000 profit boost to £38.9m.
