• A Foden tipper worth £30,000 was stolen last week from Penygroes-based R Thomas and Son.
The 4000 Series eight-wheeler bulk tipper was stolen overnight from nearby Cross Hands, near Llanelli, Dyfed.
The cab had been locked. The theft leaves the company with four vehicles.
The vehicle's registration is F660 BTH and the chassis is numbered 401845 with an engine number FKDO 01322.
The cab is white with red stripes with the company name in black. It has a Withey-made aluminium tipping body.
Contact: Roger Thomas on (0269) 842555. • Night maintenance work is to start earlier than planned at Ely Transport in an effort to improve security at the company's Cardiff depot.
The servicing of vehicles at night is to start immediately following the theft of two vehicles and two trailers from its site on Lamby Industrial Park, Rumney, Cardiff. Thieves have cost the 15-vehicle company £125,000.
The vehicles, a 1989 Scania 143 6x2 tractive unit and a 1990 Volvo F10 6x2 tractive unit, were parked with their trailers in Ely's fenced compound and were under regular surveillance from a security company.
On the night of the theft the security man noticed a damaged fence and told the company. The cut was repaired but the vehicles were taken soon afterwards.
The Scania, reg F788 AWO, has a white cab with blue, red and yellow diagonal stripes, an illuminated Scania sign on the grille, an air foil, side deflectors, four spotlights, air horns and tipping equipment. The engine number is 5539053 with chassis number, 1143574. The trailer, a 1985 AHP tri-axle alloy-bodied tipping trailer, was loaded with scrap metal turnings and steel plates. Its chassis number is 9175.
The Volvo, reg G941 FBO, has a silver cab with the Ely Transport logo on the doors. Its engine number is 217469 and the chassis number is 335092. The tipping trailer is an alloy-bodied 1985 Seadyke two-axle model.
A £1,000 reward is offered for information leading to the vehicle's return or conviction of the thieves.

• The theft of a £39,000 vehicle is forcing a "deep rethink" of security policy at national company Pipeline Constructors.
The stolen vehicle, a Mercedes 1717 tipper with an Atlas 3006B grab (see picture), was fitted with a self-setting cab alarm and a brake lock.
However, the thieves smashed off the cab alarm and removed the brake lock. The devices cost £475 to fit and Pipeline has fitted both types to 75 other vehicles in its fleet.
"Obviously we're disappointed with their performance and we'll probably have to add to the devices we've got," says Terry Curtis, assistant plant and transport manager.
But he adds: "There's not much more we could do apart from taking the wheels off and cementing the vehicle into the ground."
The vehicle, reg J190 IDO, was parked overnight last week in a yard on Frimley High Street on the Surrey/Berkshire border, when thieves broke through two padlocks on the gates and moved two diggers before removing it. The chassis number is 6520-17257-14646 with engine number 35694020 166274.
Pipeline is offering a £500 reward for information leading to a conviction.
Contact: Terry Curtis on (0536) 400300. • Lancashire-based Allen Munro Transport Group lost one of its Scania tractive units after it stayed overnight at a maintenance contractor.
As a result the managing director of the 35-vehicle group, Allen Munro, is calling for the company, Scania agent Haydock Commercials, to review its security arrangements.
But Haydock's service manager Alan Cooper denies there is a security problem on the main site and points out that operators like to collect their vehicles out of hours, which makes street parking necessary. A locked compound would prevent operators from collecting their vehicles overnight, he says.
The Scania, an R143-470 6x2 tractive unit, had been locked on the busy industrial estate. Although the vehicle was on contract hire from Haydock, the loss is expected to cost Munro about £55,000.
The vehicle, reg H3I3 WFV, has a yellow and blue livery with the name Munro on the air deflector.
Munro is offering a £1,000 reward for information leading to its recovery.
