A MINIMUM 12 per cent reduction in fuel consumption by using a Fidus diesel emulsifier is claimed by National Carriers Ltd.
Emulsifiers were fitted to two Bedford KDLs with 330 engines with the fuel consumption being monitored by flowmeter for two weeks prior to the installation. The original consumption figures averaged 22.6 and 22.41it/ 100km (12.5 and 12.6mpg) respectively.
Following the installation of the emulsifiers, both Bedfords were then used for normal parcel collection and delivery around High Wycombe and Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire.
The minimum weekly fuel consumption saving has been 12 per cent, while one vehicle has produced a maximum reduction of no less than one third.
The tests are to be continued for a further two months, when both engines will then be stripped down and inspected.
