• Thirty five coach drivers involved in falsifying tachograph charts while working for Raymond Ferris, trading as Ferris Coach Holidays, of Senghenydd, and one of his sub contractors, Howard Mainwaring, trading as Main. Line Travel, of Tonyrefall, have received a severe official warning.
South Wales Traffic Commissioner John Mervyn Pugh was considering whether to take action against their PSV driving Licences when they appeared at a Cardiff public inquiry.
Many of the drivers said that they did not know the law. Others said they had been naive, Some admitted that it was their own fault saying that they had done it for the money as they had young families.
Others claimed that they had been without a job and had been worried about their houses being repossessed for failing to keep up with the mortgage repayments.
Pugh said there had been an appalling catalogue of offences. Some of the drivers had tried to pull the wool over his eyes. They had all broken the law, putting their families, their children and the public at risk.
'Thankfully, "by the grace of God," none of them had been involved in an accident, Pugh added.
He warned that should they commit any offence in the future, they could not expect to continue as PSV drivers.
