result we've been looking for from an FH. OK. so we've had to wait till Euro-5 to get it, but better late than never. Yes, the FH enjoyed the benefit of a nonstandard trailer on test but we've no doubts whatsoever that the latest Dl 3A can deliver good economy whatever the road, or the load. And from the moment we f irst drove the new 480 FH back in 2005 we've been asking ourselves: 'Do you really need any more power in a 44-tonner?" It's a superbly understated engine that gets on with the job with the minimum of fuss.
And when you put an I-Shift auto behind it you've got a very driveable motor. As autos go. I-Shift is right up there among the twopedal front-runners. We just think it's time to lose some of the options on it and reduce the driver 'fiddle factor' further, With I-Shifts quick-thinking brain you really don't need an economy/power setting any more.
Last but not least, Volvo's FH is a truck that drivers still want to get into and the Globetrotter XL cab/Comfort / trim combo is attractive without
being OTT. Like we said, the FH13.480 is a 'reward' motor. But it's one the gaffer won't resent
or regret.
