• Following a change in the Institute of the Motor Industry rules of membership. allowing admission through examination only. the council has adopted a sub-committee recommendation that four further optional groups should be added to the existing six in the Institute's intermediate examinations syllabuses, They are: Motor vehicle design and production; Tyre and battery technology; Marketing of oil and petrol; Accident repair claims and assessment.
The sub-committee's draft syllabuses were accepted on January 8 and will be introduced to colleges and candidates by September 1970 so that courses based on them may begin in September 1971 and the first examinations held in 1972.
During 1969 IMI membership grew from 10,312 to 11,154. The Golden Jubilee Year dinner is to be held at the Park Lane Hotel. London, on June 5, and Sir Reay Geddes is to present the Lord Wakefield Gold Medal paper at Church House, Westminster, on September 29.
