Fuel prices
am intrigued by your weekly reports on fuel prices. As a small business operating eight diesel-engined vehicles, and using our own bulk tanks, it is significant that some forecourts are selling below our bulk buying prices
We operate in London every week and I was conscious that some forecourt prices were very competitive. Last Thursday, 16 January, I noticed diesel at 56.9p/lit, in Harlesden, but the twin tanks on my MAN 7.5-tonner were still quite full!
We currently pay 50.75p/lit (ex-VAT). Later in the day I bought diesel in Shepherds Bush at 57.9p, but was amazed to see a few miles down the road at Sunbury on the A316, at a Shell station, it was an amazing 729p! This is a whole 15p/lit increase. This price was repeated at Fleet Services, and is surely a further indication of cynical exploitation by the major fuel companies. Is it possible to begin to highlight these forecourts who so obviously overcharge? Anthony Ruche, Cretekerne Furniture Emporium.
