The 283kW 220.38 features a 17-tonne winch and 10-tonne capacity underlift boom, supplied by TFL of Bedfordshire, with purpose-built fittings for straight bar and lift-and-tow breakdown recovery, or removal of accident-damaged vehicles. TFL also extended the conventional 220.30 tractive unit chassis, which has an air-suspended drive and second axle, by 1,270mm into a Chinese-six rigid.
