E Hesketh (Rainford) (CM 18-25 June) has been blocked by St Helens Borough Council and local residents.

The company sought to add the vehicles and trailers to a licence authorising the operation of 12 vehicles and 20 trailers from Church Lane, Rainford. The site is on the edge of a built-up area opposite a number of houses and has been used as a haulage depot for some years.

Announcing his decision following a site visit, acting North Western Licensing Authority Keith Waterworth said it was clear that nearby residents suffered serious environmental problems from noise, particularly in the morning and evening.
