• Three men involved in haulage appeared in court last week on drugs-related charges.
A driver from County Armagh appeared in court on 22 June. He had been stopped two days earlier on a return run from Spain carrying vegetables. The driver was charged with fraudulent importation of a tonne of cannabis with a street value of £3.25m and was remanded until 30 June. In a separate case conducted by the South East Regional crime squad with customs officials, A Margate-based man and another man from Westgate on Sea appeared in court on 23 June following the discovery of 300kg of cannabis worth more than £1m, in a vehicle stopped on the M2 after a truck returned from Calais.
They were also remanded until 30 June.
