From E. G. Allchin and Co. Ltd. comes a planetary-geared power wrench—the Plarad Model XVK—particularly suitable for commercial-vehicle application as it can cope with nuts that have been tightened with impact tools or have become corroded. The wrench has a 6 to 1 ratio, which provides a torque of up to 2,100 ft.lb.
To operate the wrench the required fin. square-drive socket is fitted onto the lin. squaredrive output shaft of the Plarad and positioned on the wheel nut. The torque arm is then located against the nearest convenient wheel stud, or the hub or wheel rim and rotated by using a normal wheel-nut wrench. It does not require an external source of power and can also be applied to cylinderhead nuts and so on.
