Production of cars and commercial vehicles by the organization in the year ended July 31 was almost the same as in the previous 12 months, he said. "At first we were hopeful that output would show an increase and in the first six months of the year we were well ahead; unfortunately, material restrictions were responsible for a considerable fall in production in the latter part of the year."
Exports were more than maintained; 77 per cent, of output was sent overseas, compared with 72 per cent. in the previous year. He emphasized that rearmament work would be largely in substitution of, and not additional to, normal production.
