"We offer a total service for the management of hazardous wastes," says Jonathan Harris, Technical Manager at Grundon Waste Management.
"This includes the provision of Chempack chemists to carry out the on-site assessment of wastes, including their identification and classification; the supply of all legal paperwork and transport labels; a packing service; and tailored collection services designed to meet the requirements of each producer."
Backing up all these services is the Grundon Technical Department where experienced chemists and environmental scientists provide advice on hazardous waste management. Grundon also owns and operates a wide range of disposal facilities which are able to process most hazardous wastes.
A range of containers can be supplied for the storage and transport of packaged and bulk wastes. These include Chemsafes, Grunsafes, tube coffins, drums, bags and boxes, as well as more traditional skips and RD-RD containers.
The Grundon technical and clinical waste departments operate a range of vehicles able to transport most types of packaged hazardous waste in any type of container, as well as bulk and liquid hazardous wastes.
These include: • 44ft artic curtainsiders with tail-lifts • Double-deck artics designed to carry two layers of UN-certified wheeled bins (used predominantly for clinical waste) • Rigid flatbeds with front-mounted Hiab cranes, tail-fifts and a dropsider • A range of rigid curtainsiders fitted with taillifts • Resinlined 65m3 bulk Feldbinder powder tankers 'Vacuum tankers for aqueous and flammable liquids-4,000gal rigids; and 5,000/6,000gal artics • A range of box vans, some of which are fitted with tail-lifts OA range of skip and RO-RO vehicles "In response to recent regulatory changes we developed a Haz-Box collection service," Harris reports. it's tailored to meet the needs of producers who generate small volumes of hazardous wastes." This includes materials such as aerosols, batteries, paints, adhesives, contaminated rags and wipes, oils and cleaning chemicals.
The Haz-Box service provides a costeffective method of ensuring that waste producers remain compliant with all disposal legislation. "Using the innovative technologies available at our Hazardous Waste Transfer Station in Oxfordshire, the Haz-Box service not only ensures compliance, but also enables the waste producer to recycle a large number of their hazardous wastes," he adds.
For bulk wastes, such as asbestos, contaminated packaging, ducting and equipment, filtercakes and soils, the technical department supplies skips and RO-RO containers, include open and enclosed units. The HO-R0 containers can be supplied up to a capacity of 30m3 and 14 tonnes.
The company also provides a range of specialist collection service for materials such as waste explosives, and wastes containing radioactive sources such as smoke detectors.
