A COMMON-SENSE plan to eliminPI ate absenteeism and unpunctuality in Scottish transport services has been put forward by the Transport, and General Workers' Union. It is suggested that all municipal and private bus operators should agree that early morning buses should take drivers and conductors to the garages; irrespective of whether they be in municipal or private employment. Mr. Arthur Gee, the Scottish secretary of the passenger group of the Union, states that many emplesees leave home between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m., and are not allowed to use municipal buses if they be company workers, and vice versa. He suggests a pooling of transport vehicles for early starters, and this would enable many who arrive late, because they have to walk long distances, to get to their work in time.
Glasgow Corporation, the Scottish Motor Traction Co., Ltd„ and other bus-operating companies have been asked to express their views on the suggestion.
