• SAF has reduced the weight of its low-maintenance "Euroaxle" by 8kg by redesigning the brake drums and hubs.
Unit weight of the trailer axle is now 298kg, with the weight of an integrated SK-Intraax axle-cum-suspension unit going down to 440kg.
S&S Services of Tonbridge, Kent, has bought 15 M&G triaxle curtainsided trailers equipped with SAF self-steering rear axles.
The company, which specialises in dry freight groupage and warehousing, first specified rear-steer trailers three years ago. It estimates that tyre life on the rearmost axle has quadrupled. while the other tyres also last longer.
