• 7F has launched a development of the Ecomat automatic transmission, and a 10-speed variant of the AS-Tronic automated gearbox described in CM last week. The new units are mainly intended for the bus and coach market, and are optimised for recent engines fitted with electronic control.
The revised Ecornat uses the same housing as before, but incorporates electrical rather than pneumatic retarder control for infinitely variable retardation. The electronic control unit is a self-learning adaptive system which allows for acceleration-dependent gearshifts, and more comprehensive diagnostic functions are available.
The 10-speed AS-Tronic gearbox works with an automated clutch and electronic gear synchronisation. Maximum torque for the 10AS 2301 is 2,300Nm for the direct-drive version, or 2,600Nm with overdrive.
