Since 1997 SDC's sales have risen by around 25% ,says general manager Benny Magee. The Toomebridge,Antrim-based company employs a dozen sales reps to get its message across, resulting in 2,000-plus sales a year.
The company attributes its growth to the quality of its products and the time it takes with each customer to get the specification right. Its products remain popular south of the border, where it claims a 40% market share.
Manufacturing is a three-stage operation. SDC's parent company. MDF, also based in the province,supplies the Toomebridge factory with steel pressings.The chassis are assembled atToomebridge and if the customer requires a body, the unit is sent to its Mansfield bodyworks for completion.
The company has been expanding capacity at Mansfield. Benny Magee is an SDC veteran with 20 years' service. He started as a welde the workshop and went on to become forer and production manager before reaching h present position.
In 1997 SDC faced a period of uncertaint when owner Seamus McCloy sold the bush to American-giant Powerscreen.The follov ing year Powerscreen sold the firm to MDF owned by holding company Retlan. Returr stability has spurred the company's growth
