• Members of the Transport and General Workers' Union at Alloa bus depot have been given four months' grace to clear up allegations of rule-breaking and discrepancies in funds.
Driver John Torrance had called for an inquiry into the union at the depot, which has 130 TGWU members. He claimed rules were not complied with during the election of shop stewards, funds went missing, sickness benefits were not paid and smear campaigns were started.
At an Industrial Relations Tribunal in Glasgow last week the union's district secretary at Dunfermline, Fife, Mr James McIntyre, admitted there had been "some faults". The 1 ribunal chairman, Mr R. H. McDonald QC, adjourned the hearing until the end of December to let the union executive and its Clachmannanshire members sort out the problems. There have been two recent investigations at the depot.
Mr Torrance resigned as shop steward convener along with the branch chairman. He was not satisfied because the results of investigations were not revealed.
