• Rental trucks will be in short supply in the run up to Christmas, according to a leading rental companies.
Dawsonrental chief executive Michael Williams says the shortage will be caused by a combination of pre-Christmas demand and a recovery in the market. Rental demand is already rising after a good summer.
Dawsonrental's interim results, released last week, show pre-tax profits up 8% to £5.43m. Williams says: "We have been able to achieve these profit levels through operational efficiency and economies of scale. By the end of the year we will have invested £40m in the hire fleet and will have brought
the number of branches up to 44:,
The company runs 4,000 vehicles, split equally between short-term truck rental, trailer hire and contract hire activities.
