• The first Volvo FL12 in the UK is with Linkman Tankers. Incorporating the Volvo Engine Brake (VEB) allows the FL12 tractive unit to meet ADR braking requirements (for transporting hazardous goods) within a weight of 6.4 tonnes.
Fitted with the 380hp version of the D12 engine, the FL12's power-to-weight ratio is 20% better than Linkman's FL10s: it is expected to give superior fuel consumption and faster journey times than Linkman's existing vehicles.
It will be used to haul oil, foodstuffs and chemicals on a three-month trial, based initially at Linkman's Heywood depot. The FL12 will also operate from Runcorn, Middlesbrough and Purfleet, being multi-shifted to enable the maximum number of drivers to evaluate the vehicle during the trial.
