• Sixteen, 3611. single-deck bodies have been ordered from Eastern Coach Works by Leicester City Transport to fit chassis ordered from Bristol last November. They will be used as 47-seaters on services not calling for high capacity double-deckers but can accommodate up to 19 standing passengers when heavy loading is encountered.
Leicester City Transport's new operating centre in Rutland Street is to be opened by Mr. Robert Brown MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, an March 27. The move from Humberstone Gate will break the last 'physical link with the earliest days of public transport in Leicester: the old premises originally belonged to the Leicester Tramways Co, which operated horse trams as early as 1874.
