Police are investigating two truck fires which caused 150,000 worth of damage at a commercial vehicle repair centre In North Tyneside.
The fires were spotted last Thursday at around 2.40am at JR Selby Coachworks, on Commercial Road in South Shields.
A Northumbria police spokesman says that the incidents were not related to a spate of arson attacks on haulage yards across the region, but are being treated as suspicious.
Jim Selby, MD of Selby Coachworks, says that he is devastated by the Incident: "If it is arson then whoever is doing it needs to think carefully before putting people's lives at risks. They need to be stopped before someone is seriously hurt."
Last month, three men were arrested in Newcastle in connection wtth arson attacks on nine truck and bus depots in the North-East over the past year, causing £17m In damage and lost revenue.
The attacks began In June 2002, when 23 refuse vehicles were set alight at Newcastle upon Tyne Council's Cttyworks depot in Heaton. The most recent was at Benfield Motors in Newcastle, causing more than £300,000 worth of damage CM27 Jun-4 Jul 20021.
The men, all from the Newcastle area, will remain on bail pending the outcome of forensic tests.
