• Leaders of 35,000 London Transport busmen, including Green Line crews, were meeting this week to consider a call for guerrilla strikes.
Garage delegates want their negotiating committee to ask the Transport and General Workers Union executive to sanction official action following the Government's rejection of their £1-a-wee k pay and productivity deal.
The Government has ruled that it will allow an extra 1 Os a week for co-operation in extensions of o-m-o operations. But further productivity measures are said to be worth only 5s—half the bonus agreed between the union and London Transport.
The strikes threat comes as a surprise to TGWU leaders and could prove an embarrassment to Mr. Frank Cousins, TGWU general secretary. No doubt he recalls that the 1958 London bus strike failed to make a serious impact on the travelling public—except to drive more away from buses to other forms of transport.
