Hauliers who want to buy used trucks are finding it easier to get finance than they have recently, says Lee Smith, general manager of Essex independent used truck dealership Hanbury Riverside.
"A growing number of finance houses are looking to write business in the haulage industry, and they're not asking for such high deposits as were required previously," he reports. 'They're looking for 10-15% rather than 25%, and some of them will consider every case that is presented to them. That doesn't mean to say they will accept every case, but they are prepared to be flexible."
Smith has also noted a revival of Interest in older trucks: "Over the past few weeks we've sold 10 M and N-plated Volvo FL10 4x2s," he says. "They were nice clean tractors from a well-known distribution company and fetched just under £5,000 each. We'll be getting some more in soon." The firm has also started to sell trailers. Smith says: "We bought a batch of 10 skeletals dating back to 1998; we sold all of them, and we're going to get in some more of those too."
