THE Traders Road Transport Association has challenged Mr. Alex Kitson, secretary of the Scottish Horse and Motormen's Association, to justify his recent assertion that the number of C-licensed vehicles in this country could be halved. Mr. Kitson's claim, made at his Association's annual conference at Dunoon, has been answered by the T.R.T.A. national secretary, Mr. 11, R. Featherstone, who said last week that if such sweeping assertions are to carry weight they must be backed up by hard facts.
Mr. Featherstone pointed out that 65 per cent of C-licensed vehicles were small vans mostly employed on local delivery work, whilst the larger part of the remainder are engaged on supplying shops and factories.
Anti-Nat. Campaign AN intensive advertising campaign against the renationalization of the road haulage industry is to be launched this month by Aims of Industry. Advertisements in leading newspapers, from the week starting April 20, will stress the havoc, inefficiency and waste" caused when road haulage was previously nationalized. They will also appeal to Mr. Harold Wilson to drop his plans for more State ownership in this field.
