Could you possibly clear up a question for us—what is the minimum rest after a period of driving?
We have been told that it is now a minimum of 30 minutes, not the old 15-minute break any more. This would mean that you now have to take a break of 45 minutes or two 30-minute breaks—is this now law? Clive Cargil, Director, Five ways Transport.
Joan Williams, regional policy manager at the Freight Transport Association writes: 'There are currently proposals to amend the drivers' hours rules, but these are still progressing through Europe. At present, nothing
has changed so the three 15minute breaks are still legal. However, the European Commission's proposal is to abolish this and replace H with a 30-minute break after three hours, or a 45-minute break after a maximum of four-anda-half hours' driving, but this may change before it becomes law."
