• Stalkers Transport is facing charges after a dangerous chemical allegedly leaked from one of its vehicles near the Watford Gap service station, resulting in 27 people being sent to hospital.
At Daventry magistrates at the end of this month the Cumbrian haulier will face charges of failing to ensure that its load of benzyl mercaptan was stored and carried safely and one charge of breaching driver training regulations.
The Health & Safety Executive is bringing the case after investigating April's toxic leak. The chemical allegedly leaked from a drum, causing eye and breathing problems and Northamptonshire police had to warn local residents to close their doors and windows for 12 hours after the incident.
