There were no launches in this sector this year, but the market continues to thrive, thanks to tachograph and speed limiter changes.
Andy Salter reviews the models on the market
While last year saw a plethora of products launched in this sector, the 2008 vintage was less active, with only product enhancements on the Transit and the chassis-cabs from LDV Maxus troubling the scribes. Changes to tachograph law and the recent speed limiter legislation affecting all vehicles over 3,..500kg GVW have meant the 3.5t sector continues to thrive with many traditional buyers of heavier vehicles looking favourably at the heavy van and chassis-cab sector rather than small trucks.
The Transit, whose reign as the International Van of the Year 2007 came to an end last month, continues to lead the market with its strength particularly prevalent in the fleet sector. Notable market gains have also been had for the Mercedes Sprinter,VW Grafter,Iveco's Daily and the LDV Maxus. Now under Russian ownership the Maxus has been given new life and many buyers are being wooed by the Birmingham van brand.
