The Nissan Cabstar was new last year and is sold through the Nissan and Volvo Trucks network. Further value is extracted for the engineering department by a Renault Maxity badge and it's availability through Renault Trucks' dealers. The Cabstar/Maxity gave the dealers a significant new weapon in their armoury as this machine is more than capable of challenging the likes of Isuzu and Mitsubishi for 3.5-tonne market success.
Nissan gave the Cabstar a thorough makeover on the inside, complete with improved driving position, while a new ladder-type chassis addressed
durability issues around the rigidity of the chassis. Power comes from 105 and 125hp versions of the same 2.5-litre engine as used in the Nissan Interstar, while top power comes from a 3.0-litre Nissan engine booting out 150hp.
The Cabstar demonstrates an impeccable ride and Nissan claims a best in class turning circle for a 3.5-tonner, although we found the steering lifeless and vague in our test drives.
