Engine: 6.9-litre, 6cyl, 240hp/925Nm, 280hp/1,100Nm, 330hp/ 1,250Nm Transmission: 9spd man, 12spd auto Chassis: 4x2, 4x4, 6x4 GVW:18.0t, 26.0t Wheelbase: 3,575-5,525mm TGM, introduced into the UK in 2006, crosses over with the TGS at 26 tonnes. The options are limited, as the 18-tonner hasn't really set our home market alight. There is one 6.9litre engine, available with three power ratings; one standard nine-speed manual transmission or optional 12-speed Tipmatic auto; and one C day cab. MAN needs to be competitive in the UK, and is looking at changing the specification.
Still, the 6x4 is a growing favourite with utilities. The frontmounted crane requires a 7.5 tonne front axle as standard, and it is well specified for an aggregates three-axle tipper. As with most sub-nine-litre engines though, it's seen as lightweight for long-distance work. With a lack of 18-tonne tippers on the market, demand has risen through construction companies wanting growing numbers of versatile vehicles. The TGM is well placed.
