IT was requested by Mr. W. G. Brown in the House last week that the Minister of War Transport, before announcing the adoption by the Ministry of a standardized design of producer-gas plant, should give, roadtransport organizations and existing manufacturers an opportunity of examining the specifications and suggesting improvements. He asked also that the skill and resources of existing makers should be fully utilized in the Manufacture of this or any other type
of producer-gas plant. , The design of producer chosen for public service vehicles, replied Mr. Noel-Baker, had been successfully operated for a considerable timeby one of the largest bus interests fu the country. That chosen for goods vehicles had been subjected to irtten, sive tests under the supervision of a Committee. 'of experts. Experience would doubtless suggest improvements, but immediate action was now required, and for that reason he could not accept the suggestion that there should be further consultations before manufacture began.
He assured Mr. Brown, however, that the closest tauch was being maintained. with toad-transport interests, and gave an assurance that the Minister would bear in mind the skill and resources of all manufacturers of producer-gas plants. But it would b6 appreciated that many factors must be borne in, mind, including the advantages of mass-production, giving lower cost and faster output.
