ONCE again the travelling public was inconvenienced this week by management and men for women) of British Rail. Thankfully good sense prevailed at the NUR conference at Plymouth and by Wednesday things were back to normal – or almost. However, in the meantime, it was the coach industry which came to the

fescue.

Not until Sunday evening could we be certain that there would be no train service and yet on Monday, as early as 5am, private coaches were marshalled at collection points around the country.

They did not arrive there by chance, a great deal of planning was involved. This was yet another example of road transport's ability to adapt, be flexible and provide a public service.
