Cha tered Institute of Transpo has recommended changes the membership rules to allo a wider range of transpo men to join.
In its report, the committe, under the chairmanship of CI past president Sir Peter Mast field, recommends that ther should be clearly define routes of entry to the Membt and Fellow grades makin more provision for corporal members of other bodies.
There should also be specif grades of membership wit ntry qualifications for those ot able to join the CIT as full lernbers. More education for lernbers is also on the cards ut examinations are likely to e passed over to educational stablishments.
CIT aims
Transport should be procted as an activity needing pecialist skills, says the report nd the public should be made lore aware of the objects and chievements of the CIT.
Objects of the Institute hould be aimed more at improving the standards of education in transport and Sir John urges that the CIT should continue to work closely with educational establishments in Britain to improve standards.
Transport qualifications should be related to job specifications, says the report and it is desirable that the qualifications should become features of the job.
But the CIT has apathy among employers to fight on the question of qualifications, says the report, and Sir John wants to see the problems re-examined to find out why employers take this attitude.
