JANUARY 1984 was a record month for the sales of Peugeot/ Talbot light commercial vehicles, according to the company, with 282 Peugeot 305 vans and 323 Peugeot 504 pickups sold.
Peugot now claims a 25 per cent market share in the 1-ton pick-up sector, compared to 17.1 per cent in 1983, placing it in second place behind market leader Ford, whose P100 dominates the sector with 53 per cent of sales.
Delivery problems with the Italian Sevel-built Talbot Express van, which affected availability of vehicles in the UK from the middle of 1983 have been "overcome" says Peugeot/Talbot, which hopes to increase Express van sales beyond the 3,146 sold last year.
Increased light van sales are a result of "re-educating" those car dealers who sell commercials to the different requirements of light van operators says the company. As a result of the improved performance Peug eot/Ta I bot may extend the range of model variants currently offered in the UK.
